Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Salar de Uyuni & Night on the Salt Flats or in Uyuni (weather-dependent)

Depart from Hotel Kachi in Uyuni at approximately 10:30 AM. Visit the salt flat’s headline sights: the Train Cemetery, Colchani’s artisan market, the Dakar Monument, and the Flag Plaza. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the heart of the salar. In the afternoon, head to Incahuasi Island (seasonal access). Accommodation depends on conditions: if weather is favourable, cross the flats to overnight in a hotel on the salt (ideally Hotel Colcha K, subject to availability; otherwise a property of similar standard). If conditions are adverse, return to Uyuni for the night at Hotel Kachi.

Day 2: Salar de Chiguana – Lagoons – Siloli Desert – Laguna Colorada – Salar de Chiguana

Depart the hotel for the Salar de Chiguana, a bright, lesser-visited salt flat that opens into the Altiplano’s desert horizons and surrounding mountains. First stop: Laguna Cañapa, renowned for its turquoise-green waters and flocks of pink flamingos—ideal for panoramic photography. Continue to Laguna Hedionda, noted for its sulphur scent and striking contrast between green waters and arid desert—excellent for wildlife viewing. Proceed to Laguna Honda, a quieter lagoon with greyish waters and a serene, solitary setting, followed by Laguna Chiarkota, celebrated for its clear waters and sparse, beautiful surroundings. Enjoy a picnic lunch amid lagoons and mountains.

Head onward to the Siloli Desert, famed for fantastical rock formations, and stop at the iconic Árbol de Piedra (Stone Tree) for photos. Conclude the day at Laguna Colorada, a brilliant red lagoon coloured by minerals and algae and home to thousands of flamingos (especially in nesting season). Overnight at Hotel Piedrita within the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve. Dinner included.

Day 3: Geysers – Hot Springs – Salvador Dalí Desert – Valley of Rocks

Set out very early (~5:00 AM) for sunrise at the Sol de Mañana Geysers, where the heated ground releases towering steam plumes—spectacular in the soft morning light. Then continue to the Polques Hot Springs for a relaxing soak in the middle of the desert. Cross the surreal Salvador Dalí Desert, known for rock formations that evoke the artist’s paintings.

Carry on to Laguna Verde, a vivid emerald lagoon coloured by dissolved minerals, set beneath the magnificent Licancabur Volcano, and then to the tranquil Laguna Blanca. Travel to the Valley of Rocks, where wind has sculpted monumental figures—among them the famed “Dedos de Dios” (Fingers of God)—a fantastic setting for exploration and photography. On the return to Uyuni, stop in San Cristóbal, a small Andean village offering a brief look at local rural life and traditions. Enjoy a picnic lunch en route. Arrive in Uyuni around 6:00 PM, concluding your Altiplano adventure.
