Short itinerary

Day 1: Puerto Maldonado – Lodge – Walks – Monkey Island – Adventure Circuit

  • Pick up from the airport or bus terminal and transfer to an office to store luggage not needed for the tour.
  • Transfer to Capitanía port and 15-minute boat ride down the Madre de Dios River to the lodge.
  • Settle into comfortable rooms, then take a guided walk along lodge trails to learn about the area’s flora and fauna.
  • Lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon, a 20-minute boat ride to Monkey Island to see up to 5 monkey species.
  • Return to the lodge at sunset, using flashlights to spot caimans’ glowing red eyes while the guide explains their behavior. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 2: Parrot Clay Lick – Tambopata Reserve

  • Early morning at 5:00 am, visit the Cachuela parrot clay lick on a 50-minute trip to see various parrot species gathering on the riverbank to eat clay—a colorful spectacle of flights and calls.
  • Return to the lodge for breakfast. Then prepare for a full-day visit to Lake Sandoval: a 10-minute boat ride, followed by a 1-hour walk to enter the Tambopata Reserve “Lake Sandoval.”
  • Enjoy a canoe ride across this beautiful lake rich in birds and wildlife. Have lunch at a lakeside restaurant. Option to swim in the lake, then return to the lodge for dinner.
  • After dinner, take a night walk to see nocturnal animals and insects before overnight at the lodge.

Day 3: Lodge – Puerto Maldonado – Airport

  • Breakfast, then coordinated transfer by motorboat to Puerto Maldonado and onward to the airport or bus terminal.

Detailed itinerary

This 3-day program begins with your arrival in Puerto Maldonado, where you’ll be picked up from the airport or bus station and taken to an office to safely store any luggage you won’t need on the tour. Then transfer to Capitanía port for a 15-minute boat trip down the Madre de Dios River to reach your lodge. After settling into comfortable rooms, take a guided walk along the lodge trails to learn about the surrounding flora and fauna. Enjoy lunch at the lodge before a 20-minute boat ride to Monkey Island, offering the chance to see up to five monkey species. As you return at sunset, use flashlights to spot the red eyes of caimans on the riverbanks, with your guide sharing fascinating insights about these reptiles. End the day with dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.

The second day starts early at 5:00 am with a trip to the Cachuela parrot clay lick, about 50 minutes away, where numerous parrot species gather on the riverbank to eat clay—a vibrant display of color and sound. Return to the lodge for breakfast, then prepare for a full-day excursion to Lake Sandoval. Travel by boat for 10 minutes to reach the lake’s port, followed by a one-hour walk into the Tambopata Reserve. Once there, take a paddle canoe across Lake Sandoval, rich with birds and wildlife. Have lunch at a lakeside restaurant, then if you’d like, enjoy a swim in these pristine waters. Later, return to the lodge for dinner and a nighttime walk to spot nocturnal animals and insects before resting for the night.

On the final day, after breakfast, you’ll be transferred by motorboat back to Puerto Maldonado, and then on to the airport or bus terminal, concluding this unforgettable Amazon adventure.
