Detailed itinerary
This full-day tour starts with pick-up from your hotel in Puno at 6:30 am. As you set off toward the Bolivian border, your first stops will be Inca Uyo—a site known for its ancient fertility temple—and the mystical rock formation of Aramu Muru, often called a “dimensional portal.” You’ll also pause in Pomata to take in spectacular views of Lake Titicaca, one of the highest and most captivating lakes in the world.
Upon reaching Desaguadero at the Peru-Bolivia border, you’ll handle migration procedures. Once in Bolivia, you’ll be welcomed by your local Bolivian guide who will lead you onward to Tiahuanaco. Considered the most powerful civilization in the Andes before the rise of the Incas, Tiahuanaco is home to some of the most impressive archaeological remains on the continent.
Enjoy lunch in Tiahuanaco before exploring the ceremonial center, where you’ll marvel at remarkable stone carvings and monoliths. Highlights include the enigmatic Gate of the Sun, carved from a single massive stone block, which features a calendar and deity that scholars have yet to fully decipher. You’ll also visit the Akapana Pyramid, thought to have been used for ritual sacrifices, as well as the site museum showcasing artifacts recovered from the area. Sites like Puma Punku with its precision-cut stones, and the towering Bennett Monolith, add even more wonder to this journey into pre-Inca history.
After this immersive exploration of Tiahuanaco’s cultural and spiritual legacy, return to Puno in the late afternoon, arriving around 6:30 pm with incredible memories of ancient Andean civilizations.
