Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa – Humantay Lake
- Pick up from your hotel around 5:00 AM.
- Travel by tourist transport to Mollepata in the lush Apurímac valley.
- Enjoy a nutritious breakfast in Mollepata.
- Continue by vehicle to Soraypampa (3900 m).
- Begin the hike to Humantay Lake (4200 m), approx. 1.5 hours ascent.
- Admire the turquoise lake framed by the Humantay and Salkantay snow-capped peaks.
- Descend back to Mollepata for lunch.
- Return to Cusco, enjoying panoramic views along the way.
Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Humantay Lake – Cusco
We will pick you up from your hotel around 5:00 AM and begin our journey to Mollepata, a charming town nestled in the lush Apurímac valley. Here we’ll stop to enjoy a hearty breakfast to fuel up for the trek ahead. We then continue by car to Soraypampa, situated at 3900 meters above sea level, where we will have a brief rest and get ready to start our hike.
The trail to Humantay Lake climbs gradually for approximately 1.5 hours until reaching this spectacular turquoise lake located at 4200 meters. From here, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the Humantay and Salkantay snow-capped peaks that dominate the landscape—perfect for unforgettable photos and a few quiet moments surrounded by nature.
After taking in these magnificent sights, we’ll begin our descent back to Mollepata where a well-deserved lunch awaits. On the return trip to Cusco, you’ll continue to see beautiful panoramic views of the Andes, arriving back in the city by late afternoon.
