Short itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Cachora – Capuliyoc – Chiquisca

  • Depart from Cusco at 6:00 AM by private transport toward Cachora (2850 m).
  • Start hiking for about 3 hours to Capuliyoc, with first views of Choquequirao and the Apurímac canyon.
  • Lunch at Capuliyoc, then descend approx. 3 more hours to Chiquisca.
  • Overnight camp in Chiquisca.

Day 2: Chiquisca – Maranpata – Choquequirao

  • Early breakfast and descend to Rosalinas bridge to cross the Apurímac river.
  • Ascend to Santa Rosa for a rest and try local cane liquor.
  • Continue ascending to Maranpata for lunch with beautiful views.
  • Hike on to Choquequirao camp (2850 m). Optional sunset visit to the ruins if energy allows.

Day 3: Full day at Choquequirao

  • Full day exploring all sectors of Choquequirao archaeological complex.
  • See sunrise and sunset, often with condors flying at dusk.
  • Overnight camp at Choquequirao.

Day 4: Choquequirao – Maranpata – Cocamasana

  • Begin return trek via the same route through Maranpata and down to the Apurímac river.
  • Ascend to Chiquisca for a refreshing cold shower and lunch.
  • Continue ascending to camp at Cocamasana.

Day 5: Cocamasana – Capuliyoc – Cachora – Cusco

  • Hike approx. 3 hours up to Capuliyoc for last panoramic views of Choquequirao.
  • Continue to Cachora for farewell lunch with your trekking team.
  • Private transfer back to Cusco and drop-off at your hotel.

This remarkable trek takes you through the Andes to Choquequirao, the second most important Inca archaeological site after Machu Picchu. Connected by ancient trails to Vilcabamba and Machu Picchu, Choquequirao was one of the last strongholds of the Incas.
